Ilan Ramon Visitors Center overlooks the edge of the crater near Mitzpe Ramon village. The visitors center highlights the links between skies and earth by telling the story of the largest crater in the Middle East and the wildlife in the area, and the life story of Ilan Ramon – Israel’s famous astronaut who loved the area so much until he decided to change his surname to Ramon. An interest in astronomy allows for a stop at the Mitzpe Ramon Visitors center which can be combined with a mesmerizing star gazing activity on a family trip to Israel. In the center there is an audiovisual film, short movies about Ramon’s life, dynamic displays and a mini rocket model.
