When planning a family trip to Israel, don’t forget the numerous festivals that fill up the year! Music, arts and even theater are all available. Some events are specifically Jewish, others show much of what a multicultural place like Israel has to offer. Pay attention to dates, as most of these offerings do not run year round. The Night Spectacular Show: The festival is run in the David’s Citadel in Jerusalem – a 45 minute extravaganza open to people of all ages and one does not have to speak Hebrew to enjoy! This show runs all year on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 8 pm and on Thursday from 9 pm. is The show is outside so be sure to dress appropriately for cool Jerusalem nights!
The Jerusalem Light Festival: This free festival runs in Jerusalem, in the various quarters of the Old City, on concurrent nights from the end of May through the beginning of June. There are many different shows and events making it worthwhile to visit on several nights. The festival attracts up to 250,000 plus visitors every year, and includes artists from around the world. Fun for the whole family!
Haifa International Children’s Theater Festival: This free festival takes place over the Passover holiday in and around the Haifa. It provides three days of open air plays and many different daily activities aimed at providing entertainment for children. Truly an experience for art minded children, which you won’t want to miss!
Festival of Festivals: Also held in Haifa, every weekend in December. The event celebrates three main religions that co-exist here in Israel. Ethnic food and music is offered as well as an Antique Fair. The Festival is used to promote peace and coexistence.
Gilboa International Hot Air Balloon Festival: Held at different dates each year, in two different locations. The festival attracts hot air balloon enthusiasts from around the world. Many exhibits and activities for the whole family!
International Festival of Puppet Theater: Ongoing for over 25 years during the summer months in and around Jerusalem! It was started by four artists out of an old train! The festival takes place, and offers many different shows and events. A must for the artistically inclined!
