The Parents Circle is hosting an Israeli-Palestinian Narrative Study Tour from June 1-9 which will be a unique experience to learn about the the human side of the conflict first-hand, meet with bereaved Israelis and Palestinians who have paid the highest price of the conflict, hear their narratives, witness reconciliation activities between Israelis and Palestinians on the ground, hear from leading experts on the conflict and its resolution and gain a deeper understanding of the issues as well as the role and responsibility we have in supporting peace. We hope you will join us!

DAY 1 – ARRIVAL MONDAY, JUNE 1, 2020

Arrival and Transfer to Hotel in Jerusalem

Check in, unpack, relax, and unwind.

Welcome Dinner – Meet members, staff and leadership from the Parents Circle and get to know your fellow group participants. We will set the stage for the trip.

DAY 2 – JERUSALEM TUESDAY, JUNE 2, 2020

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel.

Geo-Political Jerusalem Tour with Ir-Amim – See Jerusalem through the lens of the Israeli-

Palestinian conflict. You’ll gain insight and perspective on the political past, present, and future of the city at the heart of the conflict, with special focus on economic disparities, the Separation Barrier, construction and infrastructure, and more.

Lunch included at a local restaurant.

Personal Narrative – Meet 7th generation Jerusalemite, Rami Elhanan, bereaved father and Israeli co-Director of the Parents Circle

Knesset Meetings – Meet with MKs from different parties and ideological perspectives for a unique opportunity to hear about parliamentary and governmental aspects of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

DAY 3 – JERUSALEM WEDNESDAY, JUNE 3, 2020

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel.

Yad Vashem – Israel’s official Holocaust memorial site and the definitive source for Holocaust education, documentation, and research. Learn about and pay tribute to the victims of the Holocaust, Jews who fought their Nazi oppressors, and non-Jews who aided the victims of the Nazi Regime.

Personal Narrative – Meet Yaacov Guterman, bereaved Israeli father and Holocaust survivor

Lunch included at a local restaurant.

Narrative Tour of Lifta – Visit this former Palestinian village which has been home to

Palestinians and Jews and is a symbol for the conflict. Gain a deeper understanding of the Naqba (“catastrophe) when thousands of Palestinians were expelled from their homes in 1948 and the impact political decisions have on people’s lives and the importance of recognizing the past in order to secure the future.

DAY 4 – WEST BANK THURSDAY, JUNE 4, 2020

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and check out.

Machsom Watch Tour – See the impact checkpoints have on the everyday lives of Palestinians.

This tour offers visitors a unique perspective on the Occupation, as it brings into focus the individuals caught behind the wall and their struggle to live a normal life.

Deheisheh Refugee Camp – Visit the camp and learn about the lives of the residents: get a

glimpse of what it means to live in a refugee camp, talk to the residents about work, education, and hope for a better future, and see what it looks like to live with the narrative of a refugee.

Personal Narrative – Meet Mazen Faraj, bereaved Palestinian son who was born and raised in Deheishe and is raising his family there today.

Banksy’s Walled Off Hotel – Pay a visit to this bespoke hotel at the Separation Wall and its museum and art gallery, featuring original art by Banksy as well as special exhibits dedicated to the history of the Occupation and the Separation Barrier and the largest permanent exhibit of Palestinian art on display in the Palestinian Territories. Continue to your hotel and check in.

Dinner with local host families in Bethlehem.

DAY 5 – WEST BANK FRIDAY, JUNE 5, 2020

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel.

Morning of Activism – Get your hands dirty helping to replant olive trees that have been uprooted or destroyed by the Occupation or pitch in with Combatants for Peace in their ongoing “Abir’s Garden” project to build and rehabilitate playgrounds for Palestinian children. Abir was killed in 2007 and is the daughter of our Palestinian co-Director Bassam Aramin.

Parents Circle Narrative Activities and Projects – Meet members, staff and participants of the Parents Circle activities in action. See reconciliation activities between Israelis and Palestinians in the field.

Lunch included as part of the PNE activity.

Afternoon at Leisure – Downtime to explore Bethlehem, talk to local residents, or see historic landmarks.

Shabbat Dinner with local host families included (Details TBD).

DAY 6 – WEST BANK SATURDAY, JUNE 6, 2020

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel.

Tour of Area C with Peace Now – Your tour will take you through the largest settlement blocs, highlighting the complex and fraught relationships between the settlements and the neighboring Palestinian villages.

Hebron – Visit Hebron, the second largest city in the West Bank, which has at its center an

Israeli settlement for a deeper understanding of the ramifications of the separation and military control of the city. Time and security permitting, you may be able to tour parts of Israeli controlled Hebron (H2).

DAY 7 – WEST BANK/TEL AVIV SUNDAY, JUNE 7, 2020

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and check out.

Ramallah – Your visit to the Palestinian political, economic, and cultural capital will take you to meet with Palestinian government officials and influentials.

Visit Rawabi – Visit the first planned, Palestinian city, on the outskirts of Ramallah and learn about the way forward of businessman, Bashar Masri and why he isn’t waiting for a peace plan to move forward. Rawabi was recently featured on 60 Minutes.

Continue to Tel Aviv and check into your hotel

DAY 8 – TEL AVIV MONDAY, JUNE 8, 2020

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel.

Sderot and the “Gaza Envelope” – Visit the Israeli communities most directly affected by the security crisis in Gaza. Meet with Tania Hary, Executive Director of Gisha, that works to protect the freedom of movement of Palestinians, especially Gaza residents.

Personal Narrative – Meet with Bereaved, Israeli, member from the Gaza envelope

Lunch en route, on your own.

Jaffa Walking Tour – Learn about how the nearly 4,000 years of history and successive

conquests have left their mark on this vital port city. Learn about the relations between Israel’s Jewish majority and the Palestinian minority in Israel and how they are influenced by civil inequality and by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Farewell dinner at a local restaurant.

Overnight: Aelxander, Tel Aviv.

 

DAY 9 – TEL AVIV/DEPARTURE TUESDAY, JUNE 9, 2020

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel.

Parallel Narrative Experience – Participants will have the opportunity to engage in an interactive activity to help process their experience and all they have learned.

Closing Event & Final Discussions – (Details TBD)

Farewell lunch included at a local restaurant.

Afternoon at Leisure – Take the afternoon to relax, explore Tel Aviv on your own, and recall all of the cultural, social, and political encounters from your tour.

Transfer to the Airport – Your driver will meet you just outside the hotel lobby and take you to Ben Gurion Airport for your flight home (flight information TBD).
